I want to share a quick story with you. Last night I had a bit of an anxiety attack. I was on my boat and couldn’t figure out why.
I realized that I’m a little overwhelmed with the negativity and bullshit going on in the world.
Will there be a nuclear war? There was a shooting somewhere.
We live in extreme times. Extreme politics, radical religion, intense suffering, severe weather.
Believe it or not, there could be an extreme joy. — Watch the video
Face it; the world is a fucking mess!
It’s not that I don’t have empathy for people’s plight. It’s that I tend to over empathize with their situation.
I think a lot of people are like me — are you?
If so, then your task is to figure out a way to manage your empathy. One way is you limit your social media, harmful bullshit intake. The other is to set boundaries.
Focus on the positive stuff because there’s also a lot of extreme joy and beauty.
I mean, I’m just here producing this podcast, and I’m walking along a boardwalk at Toronto Island, and from my video, you can see there’s my bike, my computer in that bag along the trees. That’s my office today — such joy!
I’m not making a whole hell of a lot of money today, but I’ll figure it out. The money will come eventually.
FOCUS on positive things, and when you focus on positive energy, you attract positive people. It is that law of attraction.
If you think your life sucks, then your life sucks. If you believe your life is beautiful, then your life is beautiful.
You create your reality, my friend. You do.
I was in Burma years ago and amazed at the extreme poverty, yet people seemed friendly and happy.
I’m not saying I live this Pollyanna life, and that poor people don’t struggle.
But if you study Buddhism and ancient Buddhist and Zen philosophies, you’ll realize that many people’s suffering is because of their perception of reality and their misguided cravings and aversions.
We move towards or away from something. And it is those attachments to cravings and aversions that cause a lot of our self-inflicted stress and suffering.
I don’t have the answers, yet I’m pretty blessed every single day. And yet I still have anxiety.
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night freaked out. My mind says;
‘Hey Dan, you might run out of money because you’re spending more than you’re pulling in?
Then I say;
“We’ll probably all be dead in three years. On a negative day, it’s as if I’m waiting for the nuclear war to happen.
“Oh look over there, I’m expecting this big, orange glow to happen just as the world ends.
And then I stop myself and think, “Oh my god, Dan! “What kind of bullshit is that? Why do you think about that?” And then I realize that I’m a pretty grounded person.
If I’m thinking about all this bullshit, then chances are other people art as well.
And the media loves to feed us this stuff.
We truly do live in polarized times, my friend. And you have to control your mind and the bullshit that goes along with it.
You create your reality. It’s about doing what matters to live and work on your terms as YOU define success. It’s about learning, living, and loving the proud life that matters!
I’m successful when;
- I enjoy my creativity,
- I’m in the presence of people who appreciate me, and I appreciate them,
- I’m able to share my energy with the community; however, I define community.
